Treatment Cannula Infusion

Treatment cannula infusion is a method for delivering a therapeutic solution through a cannula, a narrow tube placed in a vessel, tissue, or body cavity, when controlled administration is required. The cannula directs treatment to a defined location, while infusion rate and volume regulate exposure and help maintain consistent delivery under sterile conditions. In immunology and infection research, this approach supports the administration of drugs, antibodies, fluids, or other test treatments in animal models and experimental systems. It enables researchers to evaluate localized and systemic responses, treatment efficacy, inflammation, pathogen control, and potential complications with greater procedural control.

Central nervous system (CNS) tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children, and locoregional immune-based therapies are increasingly being tested for patients in clinical trials. This protocol describes methods for locoregional cannula implantation in mice for the preclinical evaluation of immunotherapeutic infusions targeting CNS tumors.

(2018)This video demonstrates the procedure for implanting a cannula into the cisterna magna of an anesthetized mouse. The technique involves guiding a needle-mounted cannula through the dura into the inverted triangular cisterna magna and securing it for targeted delivery into the cerebrospinal fluid.
