Rapid Ventricular Pacing

Rapid ventricular pacing is a temporary cardiac pacing technique that drives the ventricles at a rapid, controlled rate to briefly alter cardiac output and motion. A pacing catheter delivers electrical impulses that capture the ventricle, shortening diastolic filling time and reducing stroke volume and arterial pressure during stimulation. Clinicians use this transient hemodynamic state during procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve deployment, selected cardiac interventions, and some electrophysiology applications. Careful control of pacing rate, duration, and rhythm supports procedural precision while limiting hypotension and other potential complications.

2013

A methodology to estimate ventricular fiber orientations from in vivo images of patient heart geometries for personalized modeling is described. Validation of the methodology performed using normal and failing canine hearts demonstrate that that there are no significant differences between estimated and acquired fiber orientations at a clinically observable level.

Current knowledge on the cellular basis of cardiac diseases mostly relies on studies on animal models. Here we describe and validate a novel method to obtain single viable cardiomyocytes from small surgical samples of human ventricular myocardium. Human ventricular myocytes can be used for electrophysiological studies and drug testing.

Benefits of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in an Asynchronous Heart Failure Model Induced by Left Bundle Branch Ablation and Rapid Pacing

2017

The establishment of a chronic asynchronous heart failure (HF) model by rapid pacing combined with left bundle branch ablation is presented. Two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging and aortic velocity time integral are applied to validate this stable HF model with left ventricular asynchrony and the benefits of cardiac resynchronization therapy.
