Dietary Intake Assessment

Dietary Intake Assessment is the systematic measurement of the foods, beverages, nutrients, and dietary patterns consumed by an individual or population, providing evidence for evaluating nutritional status and health risks in medicine. It commonly uses 24-hour recalls, food records, or food-frequency questionnaires, with portion sizes estimated and reported items matched to nutrient-composition databases. Clinicians and researchers can then compare intake with dietary guidelines, identify deficiencies or excesses, and examine relationships between diet and disease. These assessments support patient counseling, nutritional epidemiology, clinical research, and evaluation of dietary interventions, although results depend on accurate reporting and appropriate interpretation.
