Psychiatric Evaluation

Psychiatric evaluation is a structured clinical assessment used to understand a person’s mental health, behavior, functioning, and treatment needs. It combines a detailed interview with observation, mental status examination, medical and psychosocial history, and, when appropriate, collateral information or diagnostic tests to identify symptom patterns and consider differential diagnoses. Clinicians use the findings to evaluate safety risks, distinguish psychiatric conditions from medical or substance-related causes, and develop individualized treatment plans. In clinical practice, psychiatric evaluation supports diagnosis, crisis intervention, medication decisions, psychotherapy planning, monitoring of progress, and coordination of ongoing care.

Developing a Behavioral Box for Assessing Prepulse Inhibition and Neural Activity in Psychiatric Animal Models

2025

This protocol presents a microcontroller-based behavioral box to assess prepulse inhibition (PPI) by collecting acceleration data from a sensor beneath the box. This data evaluates sensory gating deficits in socially isolated rats, with an added method for synchronizing data with neuronal activity to advance neurophysiology studies on behavioral disorders.

A Multiple Integrated Social Stress Model for Psychiatric Disorders in Female C57BL/6J Mice

2025

By integrating four daily social stressors, the present study describes a multiple integrated social stress (MISS) model for psychiatric disorders in female C57BL/6J mice. After ten days of repeated MISS exposure, the mice developed depressive- and anxiety-like phenotypes, thus providing a natural, etiology-based animal model for studying psychiatric disorders in female subjects.

Evaluation of 3D Spheroids for AAV Transduction Studies

2026

Three-dimensional spheroid culture systems improve upon conventional 2D models for AAV gene therapy development. This methodology enables sensitive detection of AAV transduction at low doses, enhanced physiological relevance, and robust long-term monitoring. The platform supports potency assessment, high-throughput screening, and vector optimization across diverse cell lines and AAV serotypes.

Using a Murine Model of Psychosocial Stress in Pregnancy as a Translationally Relevant Paradigm for Psychiatric Disorders in Mothers and Infants

2021

The chronic psychosocial stress (CGS) paradigm employs clinically relevant stressors during pregnancy in mice to model psychiatric disorders of mothers and infants. Here, we provide a step-by-step procedure of applying the CGS paradigm and downstream assessments to validate this model.

Evaluating the Accuracy of Snap Judgments

2023

Source: Diego Reinero & Jay Van Bavel—New York University Social psychologists have long been interested in the way people form impressions of others. Much of this work has focused on the errors people make in judging others, such as the exaggerated influence of central traits (such as "warm" and "cold"), the insufficient weight given to the context in which others' behavior takes place, and the tendency for people to make judgments that conform to their initial expectations about another.
