Glass Surface Modification

Glass surface modification is the deliberate alteration of a glass material’s surface chemistry, charge, wettability, or roughness to control how biological molecules and cells interact with it. Treatments such as plasma activation, silanization, or coating deposition introduce reactive functional groups or protective layers that change protein adsorption and enable stable attachment of antibodies, antigens, or other biomolecules. In immunology and infection research, modified glass supports can improve immunoassays, biosensors, microscopy platforms, and cell-based studies by enhancing signal quality, reducing nonspecific binding, or limiting microbial adhesion. These tailored interfaces help researchers investigate host-pathogen interactions and develop more reliable diagnostic and analytical tools.
