Schneider's Culture Medium

Schneider’s Culture Medium is a nutrient-rich insect cell culture formulation used to maintain and grow cells outside the organism, particularly cells derived from Drosophila. Its balanced salts, amino acids, vitamins, carbohydrates, and other nutrients support cellular metabolism, survival, and proliferation under controlled laboratory conditions, often with supplements such as serum when required. In neuroscience, the medium helps sustain Drosophila neuronal and nervous-system-derived cultures for investigating neural development, synaptic biology, cellular signaling, and neurodegenerative mechanisms. By providing a reproducible environment for ex vivo experiments, it enables researchers to examine neuronal responses while controlling extracellular conditions.
