Automated Sample Preparation

Automated sample preparation is the use of programmable instruments to process biological specimens through standardized steps before analysis, improving consistency and throughput. In immunology and infection research, robotic liquid handlers dispense precise volumes, mix reagents, perform serial dilutions, and coordinate incubation, centrifugation, or nucleic-acid extraction under defined conditions. This workflow can prepare blood, plasma, swabs, or cultured samples for immunoassays, cell-based tests, and molecular detection of pathogens or host responses. By reducing manual variability and limiting handling of potentially infectious material, automation supports reproducible measurements, scalable surveillance, and faster translation of experimental findings.

Histological Sample Preparation for Light Microscopy

2023

Histology is the study of cells and tissues, which is typically aided by the use of a light microscope. The preparation of histological samples can vary greatly based on the inherent properties of the samples such as size and hardness as well as expected post-processing which includes planned staining techniques or other down-stream applications. As described in this video, specimen preparation typically begins with a fixation procedure to prevent degradation of the sample by naturally...
