Protamine Sulfate Coating

Protamine sulfate coating is the application of a positively charged, arginine-rich protein to a biological surface to alter its interactions with cells, biomolecules, or particles. In aqueous conditions, protamine binds negatively charged components such as cell membranes, nucleic acids, and other anionic materials, forming an adhesive interface that can improve attachment and local retention. In biology, this coating can support cell adhesion to culture substrates and enhance the contact of nucleic-acid-containing particles with cells during laboratory procedures. Its effectiveness depends on coating concentration, surface properties, and exposure conditions, making controlled preparation important for reproducible experiments.

Sulfate Attack on Concrete

2024

Sulfate attack on concrete is a deterioration process characterized by a whitish discoloration beginning at the edges and corners, accompanied by cracking and spalling. This phenomenon occurs when sulfates react with the components of hardened concrete, forming compounds like calcium sulfate and calcium sulfoaluminate which occupy more space than the substances they replace, causing the concrete to expand and disrupt. Sulfates from sources like soil, groundwater, or industrial effluents...
