Cancer Cell Vesicles

Cancer cell vesicles are membrane-bound particles released by tumor cells that transport molecular information between cancer cells, stromal cells, and distant tissues, making them important subjects in cancer research. These extracellular vesicles form through endosomal pathways or outward budding of the plasma membrane and carry selected proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids; after uptake by recipient cells, their cargo can modify gene expression and cell behavior. Studying these vesicles helps researchers investigate tumor–microenvironment communication, invasion, immune regulation, and metastasis. Their molecular contents may also support biomarker development and provide a basis for targeted drug-delivery strategies, although their diagnostic and therapeutic use remains an active area of investigation.

2025

The therapeutic application of extracellular vesicles (EVs) has the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment and drug delivery. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) cell-derived EVs (CAR-EVs) isolated using ion-exchange chromatography exhibit increased cargo capacity, significantly enhancing their functional efficacy. This study further characterizes CAR-EVs to elucidate their biological activity and therapeutic potential.

(2019).This video demonstrates a method for culturing and observing individual bacterial cells encapsulated inside giant vesicles anchored to a supported lipid bilayer. The system enables stable, long-term imaging of single-cell growth dynamics in a confined, physiologically relevant microenvironment.
