Her2 Receptor

The HER2 receptor, or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that regulates cell growth, survival, and differentiation through molecular signaling. Its extracellular domain forms dimers with other members of the epidermal growth factor receptor family, bringing intracellular kinase domains together to trigger tyrosine phosphorylation and downstream pathways such as PI3K-AKT and MAPK. From a chemistry perspective, HER2 research examines receptor structure, ligand-independent dimerization, phosphorylation, and selective binding between proteins, antibodies, and small molecules. Measuring HER2 abundance or activity supports cancer classification and guides targeted treatments, including therapeutic antibodies and kinase inhibitors.

2017

Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) is often required in combination with histopathology and molecular diagnostics for selection of therapy in personalized medicine. A novel non-cross-linking, formalin-free tissue fixative that allows high quality morphologic, molecular and FISH analyses from the same specimen by addition of a post-fixation step before FISH is presented.

2014

Olfactory receptor activation patterns encode odor identity, but the lack of published data identifying odorant ligands for mammalian olfactory receptors hinders the development of a comprehensive model of odor coding. This protocol describes a method to facilitate high-throughput identification of olfactory receptor ligands and quantification of receptor activation.
