3d Collagen Matrix

A 3D collagen matrix is a three-dimensional scaffold formed from collagen, the primary structural protein in connective tissue, that supports cells in a spatially organized environment. When collagen molecules are neutralized and warmed under controlled conditions, they self-assemble into fibrils that create a hydrated network with tunable density, stiffness, and porosity. In medicine, these matrices provide models for studying cell behavior, tissue repair, wound healing, and disease progression while more closely representing native extracellular tissue than flat culture surfaces. They also support regenerative medicine and drug testing by enabling researchers to assess cell migration, differentiation, invasion, and responses to therapeutic compounds in a physiologically relevant setting.
