In Vitro Evaluation

In vitro evaluation is the assessment of biological responses, interactions, or treatment effects in controlled laboratory systems outside a living organism. In immunology and infection research, scientists expose cultured immune cells, tissues, or microorganisms to defined stimuli and measure outcomes such as pathogen replication, cytokine release, antibody activity, cellular activation, or viability. These assays isolate specific variables, enabling researchers to investigate host-pathogen interactions, compare immune responses, and screen vaccines, antimicrobial agents, or immunotherapies before animal or clinical studies. Although in vitro findings may not fully reproduce conditions in a living host, they provide efficient, mechanistic evidence for experimental design and therapeutic development.

2017

Understanding how cells are modulated by exposure to shock waves can help identify the mechanisms behind injuries triggered from blast events. This protocol uses custom-built shock tube equipment to apply shock waves at a range of pressures to cell monolayers and to identify the subsequent effects on cell viability.

In Vitro Evaluation of The Effects Of Er,Cr:YSGG and Diode Lasers Used on Titanium Cylinder

2025

In this study, Er,Cr:YSGG and diode lasers applied separately to the flat surface of a total of 96 specially designed titanium cylinders. A thermocouple placed on the other surface and the temperature was measured. Surface roughness analyzed by profilometer, SEM and AFM.

In Vitro Evaluation of Oncogenic Transformation in Human Mammary Epithelial Cells

Source: Seman, B. G., et.al. Neonatal Imaging Model of Gram-Negative Bacterial Sepsis. J. Vis. Exp. (2020)This video demonstrates the isolation of neutrophils and inflammatory monocytes from neonatal mouse spleens and their application in a luminescent bacterial killing assay. It covers mechanical dissociation, red blood cell lysis, magnetic bead–based cell enrichment, bacterial incubation, and antibiotic protection. Timed luminescence readings indicate initial bacterial internalization...
