Recurrent Stroke

Recurrent stroke is a new stroke that occurs after an individual has already experienced a previous stroke, making it a major focus of neurological care and secondary prevention. It can result from renewed interruption of cerebral blood flow by thrombosis or embolism, or from bleeding caused by rupture of a weakened cerebral vessel; persistent vascular disease and uncontrolled risk factors can increase susceptibility. Studying recurrent stroke helps researchers identify patterns of brain injury, recovery, and disability across repeated events. Clinical management uses this knowledge to guide risk-factor control, preventive treatment, rehabilitation, and monitoring strategies aimed at reducing further strokes and improving long-term neurological outcomes.

Begin with an anesthetized human patient diagnosed with recurrent glioblastoma, an invasive tumor characterized by tumor cell infiltration into the surrounding peritumoral region. The peritumoral region retains an intact blood-brain barrier (BBB), where tight junctions between endothelial cells restrict drug penetration.Make an incision in the scalp, create an opening in the skull, and insert a laser probe into the tumor core using MRI guidance.Deliver laser light through the probe.Tissue...

Various murine models of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) are widely used in experimental brain research. Here, we demonstrate the model of transcranial permanent distal MCAO which produces consistent cortical infarction of a size corresponding to damage imposed by the majority of human ischemic strokes.

Recurrent Herpetic Stromal Keratitis in Mice, a Model for Studying Human HSK

Most studies of herpetic corneal disease use a primary infection model. However, primary infection with HSV-1 does not typically lead to human disease. Here we describe a recurrent model of herpetic corneal disease, which more closely mimics human disease.
