Antibody Cocktail

An antibody cocktail is a mixture of two or more antibodies designed to recognize multiple epitopes on one antigen or distinct targets, increasing the breadth of an immune response. Each antibody binds its target through specific molecular interactions and can neutralize pathogens, block receptor binding, or recruit Fc-mediated immune functions; together, the antibodies may also reduce the likelihood of escape caused by target mutation. In biology and biomedical research, antibody cocktails support pathogen detection, therapeutic development, cancer treatment, and studies of immune protection. Their composition, binding specificity, affinity, and compatibility determine effectiveness, safety, and suitability for diagnostic or clinical applications.

Whole blood Immunophenotyping is indispensable for monitoring the human immune system. However, the number of reagents required and the instability of specific fluorochromes in premixed cocktails necessitates daily reagent preparation. Here we show that semi-automated preparation of staining antibody cocktail helps establish reliable immunophenotyping by minimizing variability in reagent dispensing.

Exon skipping is currently a most promising therapeutic option for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). To expand the applicability for DMD patients and to optimize the stability/function of the resulting truncated dystrophin proteins, a multi-exon skipping approach using cocktail antisense oligonucleotides was developed and we demonstrated systemic dystrophin rescue in a dog model.

Overview Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins (Ig), are essential players of the adaptive immune system. These antigen-binding proteins are produced by B cells and make up 20 percent of the total blood plasma by weight. In mammals, antibodies fall into five different classes, which each elicits a different biological response upon antigen binding. The Y-Shaped Structure of Antibodies Consists of Four Polypeptide Chains Antibodies consist of four polypeptide chains: two identical heavy...
