Qpcr Analysis

qPCR analysis, or quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis, is a molecular biology method that measures the amount of specific DNA in a sample while the target sequence is amplified. During repeated cycles of denaturation, primer annealing, and extension, fluorescent dyes or probes generate signals that increase with product formation; the cycle threshold, or Cq value, supports quantitative comparisons, often through a standard curve or relative expression analysis. Researchers use qPCR to quantify gene expression, detect pathogens, identify genetic sequences, and assess changes in biological samples. Its sensitivity, specificity, and rapid measurement make it valuable in diagnostics, environmental biology, and experimental research.

Microbial DNA Analysis in the Field Using a Biological Extraction Field Kit and a Field qPCR Unit

2026

Reliable and accurate forms of field-deployable DNA analysis are crucial for many industries. This paper offers two methods for environmental microbial analysis in the field: 1) the isolation of microbial DNA from environmental samples using a biological extraction field kit, and 2) the analysis of DNA via the field qPCR unit.

Source: Laboratories of Dr. Ian Pepper and Dr. Charles Gerba - The University of Arizona Demonstrating Author: Bradley Schmitz Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), also known as real-time PCR, is a widely-used molecular technique for enumerating microorganisms in the environment. Prior to this approach, quantifying microorganisms was limited largely to classical culture-based techniques. However, the culturing of microbes from environmental samples can be particularly challenging, and...
