Biokull er et karbonrikt materiale brukes som et jordforbedringsmiddel med evnen til å bærekraftig lagrer karbon, bedre substrat kvalitet og sorbere forurensninger. Denne protokollen beskriver 17 analytiske metoder som benyttes for karakterisering av Biokull, som er nødvendig før gjennomføring i stor skala av disse endringer i miljøet.
De fysiske og kjemiske egenskaper av Biokull variere basert på råstoff kilder og produksjonsforhold, noe som gjør det mulig å konstruere biochars med spesifikke funksjoner (for eksempel å binde karbon, forbedringer jordkvalitet, eller forurensning absorpsjon). I 2013, den internasjonale Biokull Initiative (IBI) gjort offentlig tilgjengelig deres standardisert produkt Definisjon og produkttesting retningslinjer (versjon 1.1) som setter krav til de fysiske og kjemiske egenskaper for Biokull. Seks biochars laget av tre forskjellige matningsmaterialer og ved to temperaturer ble analysert med hensyn til karakteristika relatert til deres anvendelse som et jordforbedringsmiddel. Protokollen beskriver analyser av råmaterialer og biochars og omfatter: kation-utvekslingskapasitet (CEC), spesifikk overflateareal (SSA), organisk karbon (OC) og fuktighet i prosent, pH, partikkelstørrelsesfordeling, og plassen og endelige analyse. Også beskrevet i protokollen er analysene av råstoffene og Biokulls for forurensninger, inkludert polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH), polyklorerte bifenyler (PCB), metaller og kvikksølv samt næringsstoffer (fosfor, nitritt og nitrat og ammonium som nitrogen). Protokollen inkluderer også de biologiske testprosedyrer, meitemark unngåelse og spiring analyser. Basert på kvalitetssikring / kvalitetskontroll (QA / QC) resultatene av blanks, duplikater, standarder og referansemateriale, ble alle metoder bestemt tilstrekkelig for bruk med Biokull og råstoff materialer. Alle biochars og matningsmaterialer var godt innenfor kriterier satt av IBI, og det var små forskjeller mellom biochars, unntatt i tilfellet av Biokull produsert fra anleggsavfallsmaterialer. Dette Biokull (referert til som Old Biokull) var fast bestemt på å ha forhøyede nivåer av arsen, krom, kobber og bly, og mislyktes meitemark unngåelse og spiring analyser. Basert på disse resultatene, ville Gammel Biokull ikke være egnet for bruk som en jord endring for karbon sequestration, underlaget kvalitetsforbedringer eller utbedring.
Biokull er et karbonrikt biprodukt produsert under pyrolyse av organisk materiale 1. Interesse, både offentlig og faglig, i å legge Biokull til jord, stammer fra sin evne til å forbedre jordkvaliteten og plantevekst 2, 3, bærekraftig lagrer karbon 4, og sorbere skadelige forurensninger 2, 3, 5-7 mens tilbyr samtidig alternativer for avfall ledelse og energiproduksjon ved pyrolyse.
Biochars blir produsert av en rekke selskaper og organisasjoner over hele verden via ulike pyrolyse systemer. Materialer som brukes til Biokull produksjon omfatter (men er ikke begrenset til) treflis, husdyrgjødsel og byggeavfall 1. Forventes disse forskjellene å endre biochars fysiske og kjemiske egenskaper og dermed deres evne til å forbedre underlag, fremme langsiktig stabilitet og øke absorpsjon evner. I tillegg, under pyrolyseprosessen på Biokull may bli utilsiktet forurenset med metaller, PAH og PCB som følge av forurensede råstoff eller upassende pyrolyseforhold. Derfor, før Biokull kan brukes i stor skala for miljøet som en jord endring, forsiktig karakterisering av Biokull for forurensninger, spesifikk overflate, kationvekslerkapasitet, meitemark unngåelse og spiring og andre foreslått av den internasjonale Biokull Initiative (IBI) må gjennomføres. I 2013, det første standardisert produkt Definisjon og produkttesting Retningslinjer for Biokull, som setter standarder for Biokull fysiske og kjemiske egenskaper, ble publisert og gjort offentlig tilgjengelig.
Forskning har vist at Biokull produsert på en kommersiell drivhus i Odessa, ON, Canada har evnen til å forbedre plantevekst i intenst degradert jord og sorbere organiske miljøgifter (POPs) som PCB to, tre. Dette Biokull har blitt produsert fra treulike råstoff (dvs. organisk materiale kilder) via en kjele system der varmen som genereres brukes til å varme sine drivhus drift i løpet av vintermånedene.
Denne undersøkelsen gir karakteriseringsdata som angår fremstilling av Biokull i en biomasse kjele og anvendelse av Biokull som jordforbedringsmiddel. Målet med denne studien er å grundig karakterisere den fysiske, kjemiske og biologiske egenskaper seks biochars henhold til standarder satt av IBI i deres standardisert produkt Definisjon og produkttesting retningslinjer (versjon 1.1) (2013). Disse egenskapene er på nett, der det er mulig, til resultatene for hver Biokull som landbruks endringer og deres evne til å sorbere forurensninger.
Alle metodene oppført i protokollen har blitt nøye validert og mye brukt for jord. Som Biokull karakterisering er fortsatt i sin barndom, effektiviteten av disse metodene for karbonrike underlaget var i stor grad ukjent.
