Ischemic stroke can lead to a continuum of cognitive sequelae, ranging from mild vascular cognitive impairment to vascular dementia. These cognitive deficits can be influenced by the disruption of cortico-subcortical circuits. We sought to explore remote thalamic microstructural abnormalities and their association with cognitive function after ischemic stroke.

Although multiple studies and meta-analyses have consistently suggested that regular physical activity (PhA) is associated with a decreased stroke risk and recurrence, there is limited data on the possible preconditioning effect of prestroke PhA on stroke severity and prognosis. We aimed to study the association of prestroke PhA with different outcome variables in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to an anterior large vessel occlusion.

Temporal variations of thrombolysis delivery and their influence on outcome have been reported with controversial results. In this large cohort study, we evaluated whether thrombolytic treatment has a within-day and weekly variability corresponding to circadian and weekly patterns of ischemic stroke onset, and whether these have impact on clinical outcome.

INTRODUCTION. Anabolic-androgenic steroids are synthetic substances derived from testosterone that are employed for their trophic effect on muscle tissue, among other uses. Their consumption can give trigger a series of adverse side effects on the body, including the suppression of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis as well as liver, psychiatric and cardiovascular disorders. The most common effects are altered fat profiles and blood pressure values, cardiac remodelling, arrhythmias or myocardial infarcts. CASE REPORT. We report the case of a young male, with a background of anabolic-androgenic steroids abuse, who visited because of an acute neurological focus in the right hemisphere related with an ischaemic stroke. The aetiological study, including cardiac monitoring, echocardiograph and imaging studies (magnetic resonance and arteriography) and lab findings (thrombophilia, serology, autoimmunity, tumour markers) showed no alterations. CONCLUSIONS. The association between consumption of anabolic-androgenic steroids and cardiovascular pathologies is known, but its relation with cerebrovascular disease has not received so much attention from researchers.

One of them is stenting when a very narrow stenosis with high reocclusion risk remains after recanalization. This study describes the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (SICH) after emergent stenting in patients with AIS treated with endovascular therapies.

The underlying mechanisms of small vessel disease (SVD) subtypes are diffuse arteriopathy (diffuse-SVD) or microatheroma (focal-SVD). Endothelial dysfunction by beta-amyloid peptide (Abeta) deposition has been associated with lacunar infarcts and leukoaraiosis, but its specific relationship with SVD subtypes is unknown. We hypothesized that plasma Abeta levels can play a different role in SVD subtypes in patients with acute lacunar stroke.

Circadian rhythm interactions of hemostatic factors can modify tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) effects. We assess the relationship of the time frame of intravenous tPA administration with the outcome of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We studied 135 consecutive patients with AIS and transcranial duplex documented middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion treated with intravenous tPA. Complete recanalization was defined as total improvement on thrombolysis in brain ischemia (TIBI) grades 2?h after tPA infusion. Clinical response was evaluated by the modified Rankin scale at 90 days. We determined plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) levels in 33 patients with available plasma samples before treatment. Our results are follows: 92 (68.1%) patients were treated in the diurnal (9:00-21:00) and 43 (31.8%) in the nocturnal period (21:00-9:00). Complete recanalization was recorded in 52/135 (38.5%) patients. Both the rate of complete recanalization (45.6% vs. 23.2%; p?=?.01) and good clinical outcome (64.1% vs. 44.2%; p?=?.02) were significantly higher in the group of diurnal tPA administration compared with those treated in the nocturnal period. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) of diurnal tPA treatment for complete MCA recanalization was 2.37 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02-5.52; p?=?.045). Diurnal tPA infusion significantly improved the overall distribution of scores on the modified Rankin scale, as compared with nocturnal treatment (OR, 2.07; 95% CI, 1.16-4.64 by ordinal regression analysis). Low PAI-1 levels were associated with complete recanalization but did not significantly differ between the two time frames. In conclusion, diurnal administration of tPA is associated with complete MCA recanalization and better functional outcome at 90 days in patients with AIS.

In other cases, there happens not to be any content in our video library that is relevant to the topic of a given abstract. In these cases, our algorithms are trying their best to display videos with relevant content, which can sometimes result in matched videos with only a slight relation.
