Bushra is a PhD student at the University of Manchester Division of Pharmacy & Optometry. She completed her undergraduate Pharmacy qualification (MPharm) in 2014 at the University of Bradford, UK with integrated practical training in hospital and community pharmacy. During her degree, she was interested in changes in neuronal function in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She then completed a one-year term as an elected student representative for academic affairs at the University of Bradford Union of Students.

Bushra then moved to the University of Manchester, UK to join Dr Michael Harte's laboratory as an Honorary Research Assistant before securing the President's Doctoral Scholar Award and beginning her PhD in Autumn 2016 in the same institution. Her PhD is focused on developing novel preclinical in vivo models useful in Alzheimer's disease research. Working across multidisciplinary fields, such as using biomaterials, she is able to give more character to animal models, helping the scientific community better understand the mechanisms underlying relentless neurodegenerative diseases.

Bushra is involved in teaching and assessments at the Manchester Pharmacy School, and has won an award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Faculty.
