Lara Bischof

Lara Bischof is a medical student at the Technical University of Munich. She is currently doing a doctor’s degree at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Hospital in the laboratory for Tissue Engineering and Medical Engineering, which belongs to the department of cardiac surgery.

As a scholarship holder of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research she is working on the fabrication of heart valve leaflets using multilayered electrospinning and 3D-printing. The aim of her work is to biomimick natural heart valves to contribute to the research of novel heart valve replacements.

She attended the congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS), European Chapter, to present the findings of her work. Her research program focuses on the fabrication and evaluation of several scaffolds applying methods like uniaxial tensile tests, porosity measurements, degradation trials, cell seeding and microscopy.
