Panayampalli Subbian Satheshkumar

Panayampalli Subbian Satheshkumar is the lead for Immunodiagnostics and Proteomics Team at the Poxvirus and Rabies Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA, USA. He studies Masters of Science in Integrated Biology at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India. He obtained his Ph.D. at Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 2005 with a thesis on “Mechanism of polyprotein processing and capsid assembly in Sesbania mosaic virus”. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Viral Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health with Dr. Bernard Moss and moved to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

He focuses his scientific research on poxvirus and rabies virus ranging from diagnostics, proteomics, virus-host interactions and identification and characterization of novel anti-virals against these viruses. He has received several awards including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2019 from the United States Government.
