Haitang Li
Staff Scientist

Haitang Li is a staff scientist in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology at City of hope .

Graduated from Anhui medical University, Haitang Li relocated to the United States to pursue advanced training in life sciences, majorly focuses on gene therapy developments.

She has extensive expertise in nucleic acid based therapeutics with a broad background and knowledge in molecular biology. The focus of her research is to develop highly potent nucleic acid based therapeutic strategies, such as RNA interference (RNAi), anti-microRNAs and aptamers. She has contributed to RNA-based gene therapy for HIV with lentiviral vector-modified CD34(+) cells in patients undergoing transplantation for AIDS-related lymphoma.

In addition, Haitang Li has established humanized NSG mice as small animal models for studies related to HIV infection, pathology and HIV-induced immunodeficiency. Studies have demonstrated that humanized mouse models can be effectively used to evaluate HIV persistence and subsequently test latency reactivation strategies during oral combinatorial ART treatment in humanized NSG mouse.
