O'Sullivan Sean J. O'Sullivan is a budding physician-scientist with a PhD in neuroscience who will be specializing in Psychiatry. His research has thus far focused on translational computational genomics with a systems biology approach. Specifically, he studies the connection between alcohol and opioid withdrawal syndromes, neuroinflammation, and the gut microbiome and the limbic system. He is looking to combine research and computational skills with medical training and cutting-edge biotechnologies to understand complicated disease processes. He is most interested in mind-brain questions that have broad implications for society such as mental illness, substance dependence, and deaths of despair. That is, growing problems with profound economic, social, and political repercussions. He is dedicated to studying these issues and implementing impactful solutions. He strongly believes that physical and mental health are intimately connected.
