Karin Markenroth Bloch

Dr Karin Markenroth Bloch leads the Swedish National 7T facility at Lund University. She obtained a PhD in Nuclear Physics from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg in 2001, after which she started her career in MRI at DRCMR, Copenhagen, at one of the first Nordic 3T scanners in clinical use. Early on, this already stimulated her interest in working at the forefront of field strength and leveraging its potential in clinical applications as much as research and neuroscience. Following 13 years as Philips on-site clinical scientist in Lund, Karin returned to academia for setting up and, since 2016, leading the Swedish National 7T facility. In this role her ambition is to make 7T broadly accessible to users for new applications, setting up and supporting national projects, and keeping the 7T facility up to date by continuously expanding its capabilities. Her personal research interest is in methods for velocity-encoded phase-contrast MRI and using them to study flow of blood and CSF in the brain.
