Saskia Lippens
Head of VIB BioImaging Core Ghent

Saskia Lippens is Head of the VIB BioImaging Core in Ghent, Belgium. She was trained as a molecular biologist and obtained her Ph.D. in Sciences from Ghent University in 2003, for studying molecular mechanisms of skin differentiation. As a postdoc in the lab of J. Tschopp at the University of Lausanne, she worked on cellular stress complexes. When returning to VIB and Ghent University, she combined her expertise to work on stress responses in the context of skin biology.

She picked up an interest in microscopy during her postdoctoral studies at the University of Lausanne. In 2012, she joined the VIB BioImaging Core under the supervision of Chris Guérin and she was mainly involved in implementing volume EM and Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy in the facility. Gradually, she moved into a coordinating function to become Head of Core in 2017.

Her main interest is to provide consultancy and expertise in microscopy workflows, from experimental design to image acquisition and analysis, tailored to various research domains within the Life Sciences.
