For å observere ultrastruktur av insektssensilla, skanning og overføring elektron mikroskopi (SEM og TEM, henholdsvis) prøveforberedelse protokoll ble presentert i studien. Tween 20 ble lagt inn i fikserende for å unngå prøvedeformasjon i SEM. Fluorescence mikroskopi var nyttig for å forbedre kutting nøyaktighet i TEM.
