Die Funktion der Erwachsenen-geboren Säugetierneuronen bleibt ein aktives Forschungsgebiet. Ionisierende Strahlung hemmt die Entstehung neuer Nervenzellen. Mit Hilfe von Computer-Tomographie-geführte Brenn Bestrahlung (CFIR) können dreidimensionale anatomische Ausrichtung auf bestimmte neuronale Vorläuferpopulationen nun verwendet, um die funktionelle Rolle der adulten Neurogenese zu beurteilen.
