Bacillusantracis är den obligatoriska patogenen för dödlig inhalationsantrax, så studier av dess gener och proteiner är strikt reglerade. Ett alternativt tillvägagångssätt är att studera ortopologiska gener. Vi beskriver biofysikkemiska studier av en B. antracis ortholog i B. cereus , bc1531, som kräver minimal experimentell utrustning och saknar allvarliga säkerhetsproblem.
