Rekombinantes BDNF, das eine Avi-Sequenz (BDNFAvi) enthält, wird in HEK293-Zellen kostengünstig hergestellt und durch Affinitätschromatographie gereinigt. BDNFavi wird dann direkt mit dem Enzym BirA in einer Röhre mono-biotinyliert. BDNFavi und monobiotinyd BDNFavi behalten ihre biologische Aktivität im Vergleich zu kommerziell erhältlichen BDNF.
