הפרוטוקול מראה שיטה לבחינת קורלציה מרחבית בין ההדקים הקדם-סינפטיים, הקולטנים הפוסט-סינפטיים ותאי שוואן הפרי-סינפטיים בשריר הגסטרוקנמיוס המדיאלי של החולדה באמצעות אימונוהיסטוכימיה פלואורסצנטית עם סמנים ביולוגיים שונים, כלומר נוירופילמנט 200, טרנספורטר אצטילכולין שלפוחיתי, אלפא-בונגארוטוקסין ו-S100.
