L'infezione da virus dell'influenza A (IAV) attiva le caspasi che scindono le proteine dell'ospite e virali, che, a loro volta, hanno funzioni pro e antivirali. Utilizzando inibitori, interferenza dell'RNA, mutagenesi sito-diretta e tecniche di western blotting e RT-qPCR, sono state identificate caspasi in cellule di mammifero infette che scindono la cortactina ospite e le deacetilasi istoniche.
