Bu hayvan modellerinin doku bölümleri içinde kalıcı bir DNA virüsü genomunun saptanması için in situ hibridizasyon protokolünde bir floresan kurulmuştur. Bu protokol, viral genomun codetection, kendi RNA ürünleri ve tek bir hücre içinde viral veya hücresel proteinleri tarafından enfeksiyon süreci üzerinde çalışırken sağlar.
