Menneske-smitte av Entamoeba histolytica fører til amoebiasis, en viktig årsak til diaré i tropiske land. Infeksjon er initiert av patogen interaksjoner med intestinale epitelceller, provoserte åpningen av celle-celle-kontakter og følgelig diaré, noen ganger fulgt av leverinfeksjon. Denne artikkelen gir en modell for å vurdere tidlig host-patogen interaksjoner å forbedre vår forståelse av amoebiasis patogenesen.
