Polysaccharid kapsel er den primære virulens faktor i Cryptococcus neoformans, og dens størrelse korrelerer med stamme virulens. Kapsel diameter målinger bruges i fænotypiske test og til at måle terapeutiske virkning. En standardmetode til kapsel induktion præsenteres her, og to metoder til farvning og måling diameter sammenlignes.
