Med bestemte glycosidases å fjerne sukker fra glykoproteiner etterfulgt av SDS-PAGE er en verdifull metode for å detektere glycan modifikasjoner på protein prøver og er et godt valg for første glycobiology studier. Endringer følgende deglycosylation kan oppdages som endringer i gel mobilitet eller ved farging med glycan sensitive reagenser.
