Enterochromaffin (EG) cellen bestaan uit een kleine subset van gastro-intestinale epitheliale cellen. EG cellen zijn elektrisch prikkelbaar en vrij serotonine, nog moeilijkheden in kweken en het identificeren van de EG cellen hebben beperkte fysiologische studies. De methode die hier gepresenteerd wordt een primaire cultuur model vatbaar voor onderzoek van afzonderlijke cellen van de EG vastgesteld door electrofysiologie.
