Protokollet beskriver en effektiv och reproducerbar modell för att studera herpes simplex-virus typ 1 (HSV-1) latens och reaktivering. Analysen använder homogena sympatiska neuron kulturer och möjliggör den molekylära dissektion av virus-neuron interaktioner med hjälp av olika verktyg, bland annat RNA-interferens och uttryck av rekombinanta proteiner.
